HEMOCYANIN

Categories:

Hemocyanin by MP Biomedicals is a high grade reagent. These are proteins which are known to transport oxygen throughout the bodies of some invertebrate animals. Categorized as metalloproteins, they contain two copper atoms that reversibly bind a single oxygen molecule (O2). Hemocyanins are not bound to blood cells but are instead suspended directly in the hemolymph. Keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) is an immune stimulant derived from circulating glycoproteins of the marine mollusc Megathura crenulata, which lives off the coast of California. The KLH protein is potently immunogenic, but does not cause an adverse immune response in humans. CAS Number: 9013-72-3 Quantity Provided: 50 mg per bottle Isolated from Keyhole Limpet (Megathura crenulata) Soluble in water Available as gray lyophilized powder Keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) is used extensively as a carrier protein in the production of antibodies for research, biotechnology as well as therapeutic applications. It has successfully been used as a hapten carrier protein to enhance antigen-specific T cell priming and is known to stimulate a CD4+ T-cell response. Hemocyanins stimulate Th1 reactions without known side effects, which make them ideal for long-term continuous treatment of cancer. KLH administration has been shown to be effective against the proliferations of breast cancer, pancreas cancer, and prostate cancer cells when delivered in-vitro.
