Ferric ammonium citrate by MP Biomedicals is a high grade reagent. This is a chemical compound with a variety of uses. The reagent is available as a powder, which is soluble in water (100 mg/mL), however it is practically insoluble in alcohol. It has a boiling point at 2735 C and a melting point of 1539 C. It is very soluble in water, in contrast to ferric citrate which is not very soluble. CAS No. 1185-57-5 Quantity Provided: 500 gm per pack Molecular Formula: C6H11FeNO7 Molecular Weight 265.00 Soluble in methanol Ferric ammonium citrate is widely used in chemical and biological sectors. In the food industry, it is used as E381, as an acidity regulator. Ferric ammonium citrate is used in water purification, and as a reducing agent of metal salts of low activity like gold and silver. It is used with potassium ferricyanide as part of the cyanotype photographic process. Ferric ammonium citrate is widely supplemented to the growth media as a source of iron for various micro-organisms to be analysed. In medical imaging, ammonium ferric citrate is employed as a contrast medium.
