Ethidium Bromide (Molecular grade)

Ethidium Bromide (Molecular grade)

Categories:

Ethidium Bromide by MP Biomedicals is a high grade reagent. This is an intercalating agent commonly used as a fluorescent tag (nucleic acid stain) in molecular biology laboratories. When this compound is exposed to ultraviolet light, it will fluoresce with an orange colour, intensifying almost 20 times more after binding to DNA. Depending on the organism exposed and the circumstances of exposure, Ethidium bromide may be considered a mutagen. CAS No. 1239-45-8 Quantity Provided: 5 gm per bottle Molecular Formula: C21H20BrN3 Molecular Weight: 394.29 Soluble in water Ethidium bromide has been widely used in biochemical applications as a stain. Detection typically involves a gel containing nucleic acids placed on or under a UV lamp. Ethidium Bromide is also used during DNA fragment separation by agarose gel electrophoresis, however, the effects can be critical in determining the sizes of molecules. Ethidium bromide can be added to YPD media and used as an inhibitor for cell growth. It has also been used extensively to reduce mitochondrial DNA copy number in proliferating cells. This property has been used in veterinary medicine to treat trypanosomosis in cattle. This reagent is an essential supply in molecular biology laboratories and is suitable for various research applications.
