Cupric Sulphate, ACS by MP Biomedicals is a high grade reagent. Also known as copper sulphate, this is an inorganic salt of copper and sulphate. This reagent is available as blue crystals which are soluble in water, methanol, glycerol, however slightly soluble in ethanol. It has a boiling point of 2567 C and a melting point at 110 C where it decomposes before melting. The pentahydrate form is most commonly encountered, which exothermically dissolves in water. Copper sulphate is industrially synthesized by reacting copper metal with hot concentrated sulphuric acid, or its oxides with dilute sulphuric acid. CAS No. 7758-99-8 Quantity Provided: 500 gm per pack Molecular Formula: CuSO45H2O Molecular Weight: 249.68 Soluble in water Cupric Sulphate, pentahydrate is widely used in chemical and biological sectors. It is a reagent that is used in textile dyeing, the preparation of azo dyes, wood preservation, and the tanning of leather. Copper sulphate is also frequently utilized to oxidize lipoproteins in the context of biological oxidative stress. It is also employed in the studies of plants and plant pathogens. Copper sulphate pentahydrate is a fungicide, however some fungi can adapt to it. It is used in Fehling’s solution and Benedict’s solution to test for reducing sugars, and in the biuret test for proteins. These reagents may be used in the synthesis of various compounds in industrial processes, and are suitable for research.
