Selwinoff’s Reagent
Product Description
Hartley’s broth is a prepared media which is used in laboratory to support the growth of Streptococci and Cornebacterium diphtheriae and other fastidious organisms. The broth is prepared using tryptic digestion of fresh, de-fatted heart of an ox. It contains 29 g/L of the tryptic digest and the pH is adjusted to approximately 7.6. A small inoculum of the organism of interest may be inoculated into the Hartley’s broth to initiate growth and multiplication of the organism. Through this, growth of fastidious species like Group A, C, G Streptococcus may be recovered. In laboratories, the Hartley’s broth is commonly used for the cultivation of blood sample microorganisms, testing of sterility and laboratory production of diphtheria toxin from Cornebacterium diphtheriae. The autoclaved Harley’s medium appears as a yellow coloured and clear solution. This medium can be directly inoculated, and results may be obtained with 24-48 hours.
