Riboflavin (Vitamin B2) is an essential water-soluble vitamin added to the media for plant tissue culture applications. It is a precursor of riboflavin 5′-monophosphate and flavin adenine nucleotide, which are reduced by oxidation-reduction enzymes – flavoproteins during the metabolic process of pyruvate, fatty acids and amino acids.
