RIBOFLAVIN

Categories:

Riboflavin by MP Biomedicals is a high purity amino acid. Also known as vitamin B2, this is a vitamin found in food and used as a dietary supplement. This preparation is available as an orange powder which is soluble in soluble in 0.1 M Sodium Hydroxide. Filamentous fungi such as Ashbya gossypii, Candida famata and Candida flaveri, as well as the bacteria Corynebacterium ammoniagenes and Bacillus subtilis are used for the synthesis of riboflavin. CAS No. 83-88-5 Quantity Provided: 25 gm per pack Molecular Formula: C17H2ON4O6 Molecular Weight: 376.4 Soluble in water Riboflavin is widely used in chemical and biological sectors. It is used as a photo-initiator for polymerization of polyacrylamide gels. It forms free radicals in aqueous solution in the presence of light. Riboflavin photo-decomposes to leucoflavin. No free radicals are formed in the absence of oxygen, but traces of oxygen allow for leucoflavin to re-oxidize with free-radical generation. The catalysts TEMED or DMAPN are commonly added to speed up the free radical formation. Riboflavin is commonly used in the stacking gel for non-denaturing polyacrylamide electrophoresis because native proteins can be sensitive to persulfate ions from ammonium persulfate.
