New Methylene Blue, Certified
Product Description
New methylene blue (NMB) is a high-grade reagent supplied by Micromaster. Few other chemical names used to denote this reagent include, basic blue 24, 3,7-Bis(ethylamino)-2,8-dimethylphenothiazin-5-ium chloride and Phenothiazin-5-ium,7-bis(ethylamino)-2,8-dimethyl-, chloride. It is available in the form of a dark green powder which is odourless. New methylene blue is an organic compound of the thiazine class of heterocycles. It is stable if stored according to the recommended conditions. If exposed to excessive heat or in case of burning, it can generate hazardous decomposition products like nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, hydrogen chloride gas and sulphur oxides. It is incompatible with strong bases and oxidising agents. Avoid dust formation and excess heat conditions near this product.

New methylene blue is a staining agent used in diagnostic cytopathology and histopathology, typically for staining immature red blood cells. It is a supravital stain which stains DNA and RNA deep blue, when mixed with whole blood. It is closely related to methylene blue but chemically different from methylene blue, which is a poor reticulocyte stain. New methylene blue stains the reticulofilamentous material in reticulocytes more deeply and more uniformly than brilliant cresyl blue, which varies from sample to sample in its staining ability.
