Guanidine Hydrochloride (Molecular grade)

Guanidine Hydrochloride (Molecular grade)

Categories:

Guanidine hydrochloride by MP Biomedicals is a high grade reagent. Also known as guanidinium chloride, this compound is the hydrochloride salt of guanidine. This reagent is available as a powder which is very soluble in water and ethanol. It has a melting point of 182.3 C and a density of 1.354 g/cm3. This product may agglomerate upon storage. However the quality of the product does not appear to be affected, and solutions prepared from free-flowing and lumpy guanidine hydrochloride appear identical. CAS Number: 50-01-1 Quantity provided: 500 gm per bottle Molecular Formula: CH6ClN3 Molecular weight: 95.53 Guanidine hydrochloride has wide range of applications in biological and chemical industries. It is a strong chaotrope and is one of the strongest denaturants used in physiochemical studies of protein folding. It also has the ability to decrease enzyme activity and increase the solubility of hydrophobic molecules. This strong denaturant can solubilize insoluble or denatured proteins such as inclusion bodies. It can be used as the first step in refolding proteins or enzymes into their active form. Urea and dithiothreitol (DTT) may also be necessary. At high concentrations of guanidinium chloride (e.g., 6 M), proteins lose their ordered structure. These reagents are suitable for research.
