Product Description

Ferric citrate by MP Biomedicals is a high grade reagent. Also called Iron(III) citrate, this is a chemical compound with iron in the +3 oxidation state. This reagent is available as a dark orangeish or reddish brown powder, which is soluble in hot water. The solution forms an orange or orange-yellow solution at a pH below 2.0. Above pH 2.0, the solution turns green in colour. This compound easily forms coordination complexes, oligomers, and polymers. Ferric citrate can be prepared by adding iron(III) sulfate tetrahydrate to a solution of citric acid and sodium hydroxide at pH 3.0. CAS No. 3522-50-7 Quantity Provided: 250 gm per pack Molecular Formula: C6H5O7Fe Molecular Weight: 244.95 Soluble in water: 1g / 100 ml hot water Ferric citrate is widely used in chemical and biological sectors. Citrate anions are released by plant roots and some microorganisms to extract iron from insoluble compounds in the soil, such as ferric hydroxide, and form soluble ferric citrates that can be absorbed by the organism. Ferric Citrate acts as an electron acceptor. It is also used as a source for iron in culture media. Since it plays important roles in the metabolism of iron by living organisms, it is used in various studies. These reagents may be used in the synthesis of various compounds in industrial processes, and are suitable for research.
