Bromocresol green indicator is manufactured by Securex Lab Sciences. Bromocresol green belongs to the triphenylmethane family of dyes. The dye can be used as a pH indicator. It is part of the sulfonephthalein class of dyes. In liquid microbial growth media, bromocresol green ionizes to form a yellow monoionic form. At elevated pH, further deprotonation yields a dianionic form, which is blue in colour. Bromocresol green dissolved in ethanol, is used for Thin Layer Chromatography staining. In DNA agarose gel electrophoresis, it is used as a tracking dye. Bromocresol green I used in sol-gel matrices, ammonia detection and measurement of serum albumin in plamsa.
