Basic blue 8 is manufactured by Securex Lab Sciences. It is soluble in water and gives a red colour and when dissolved in ethanol, it gives a fluorescent orange colour. In strong sulphuric acid, basic blue 8 gives a blue colour. The dye is commonly used in the textile industry for dyeing cloth. It acts as a mordant in the dyeing process.
