Eosin Y (for Cytology) is supplied by Micromaster. It is available in the form of a reddish orange coloured solution which is clear without any insoluble particles. It is advisable to store this product below 30°C in tightly closed container and away from bright light.

Eosin Y is a xanthene dye and is used for the differential staining of connective tissue and cytoplasm. In histopathology, it is applied as a counterstain after hematoxylin and before methylene blue. It is also used as a background stain, thereby giving contrast to the nuclear stains. Eosin Y is used as a reagent in the preparation of Nigrosin-Eosin (NE) stain and is used in hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining technique to visualize alginate. It is also used as a stain to determine the location of the brain sections, for staining of fixed liver tissue and for histological examination of brain sections from the dorsal hippocampus.
