Tris Borate EDTA buffer by MP Biomedicals is a high grade reagent. Also known as TBE, this buffer solution contains a mixture of Tris base, boric acid and EDTA. Tris-acid solutions are efficient buffers for slightly basic conditions, which keeps DNA deprotonated and soluble in water. EDTA is a chelator of divalent cations, particularly of magnesium (Mg2+). It is added to protect the nucleic acids against enzymatic degradation. TBE can be diluted to 1X prior to use in electrophoresis, however higher concentrations will result in poor results due to excessive heat generation. Quantity Provided: 1 litre per Pack pH: 8.3 – 8.5 Tris Borate EDTA buffer is widely used in various applications in chemical and biological sectors. This buffer is the most commonly used buffer for DNA and RNA polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. TBE is used with non-denaturing or denaturing (7 M urea) gels. It is also routinely used for DNA automated sequencing gel. TBE can further be used for agarose gels but it is not recommended for preparative gels for recovery of nucleic acids. These buffers are essential for various procedures such as northern and southern blotting, automated sequencing, nucleic acid purification etc. and are suitable for research applications.
